This year "Up With Life" Suicide Awareness & Prevention is teaming up with Henry/Stark Health Departments, Black Hawk College, The Stark County Citizens Mental Health Force, Royal Oaks Care Center, Bridgeway Inc., Youth Service Bureau and Mental Illness Family Support Group. We have expanded our focus to include Mental Illness Misconception, Suicide Awareness & Prevention. One out of five American adults alone suffer from a diagnosable mental illnes. We have made it our mission to show our area communitites that most individuals who suffer a mental illness do not contemplate suicide, it is still an issue that needs to be "talked" about. Major Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Schizophrenia, Borderline Personality Disorder, and more are all mental illnesses that shouldn't be taken lighty, but a stigma that has been made keeps us from getting the help we need to get through them. No one should have to go through any mental illness alone, just like no should should have to battle cancer alone. Having a mental illness doesn't make you crazy, it doesn't make you weird, and it most definitely isn't something to keep quite about. As someone who suffers from Major Depression, Panic Disorder & Bipolar Disorder... I let the stigma surrounding mental illness stop me from getting the help I needed for too long. But it doesn't go away by itself, and sometimes having someone to talk to can make all the difference. So LET'S TALK! And breaking the silence around mental illness! "If you can WALK THE WALK you can TALK THE TALK!" To find out more about our event on October 3, 2015 in Kewanee, Illinois follow the link below!
